J-STAC Memorial Tree Program
Plant a tree as a living tribute to memorialize a loved one, a
colleague,
a family, the community, an organization or an event.
They are beautiful in their peace,
they are wise in their
silence.
They
will stand after we are dust.
They teach us, and we tend
them.

The City of Janesville is known as "Wisconsin's
Park Place" a
nd is blessed with over 2,000 acres of park land.
Each year trees are lost to disease, injury and old age. It takes
constant vigilance to maintain
and expand our urban forest.
J-STAC's mission is to
promote and enhance the
welfare of Janesville's urban forest
. As a means to achieving
that end, J-STAC sponsors a tree donation program.
A tree can serve as a
loving tribute when used to
honor or memorialize someone special. It will live for many
years, giving shade, oxygen, soil protection, wildlife habitat and
beauty to it's immediate environment and to the community at large.
THE PARTICULARS:
Memorial trees will be
planted twice a
year -- in the spring (April 15 to June 15) and fall (September 15
to November 15). J-STAC will work with those who donate trees
to suggest planting locations in parks with immediate tree needs, or
those who donate may suggest the desired park location.
J-STAC will help those who
donate to select a tree
appropriate to the site of their choice.
Trees available for the donation
program are:
- Maple
- oak (spring planting only)
- flowering ornamentals such
as crabapple, pear or magnolia
- uncommon varieties of shade trees which
will stand as one-of-a-kind memorial trees.
Should the
tree not survive for any reason it will be replaced one time at no
further expense. Trees will be 1 1/2" to 2" caliper, if available.
COST:
The cost of one tree
is $300 and will include mulch, stakes and a trunk protector if
necessary. If desired, a simple bronze plaque, approximately 2" by
10 ", fixed to a poured concrete base,
can be set into the ground near
the tree to designate the honoree. J-STAC does not provide
plaques
but upon request will provide materials to aid in their purchase.
Any profits
from the program will be used by J-STAC
to fund projects related to our mission -- tree planting, pruning, tree
care
and education.
Never
doubt that a small group of concerned people can change the
world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever
has.
