Kellogg
Avenue planting
in conjunction with Alliant Energy
This
project was undertaken using a grant from Wisconsin Power and Light
(which merged with Alliant Energy in 1998). The project goal was
to provide examples of the proper types of trees to plant on terraces
and under power, cable and telephone lines, as well as in the open.
In 1998 about 70 large trees, shade and ornamental,
were planted on both sides of Kellogg Avenue, from Hermitage Lane to
DuPont Drive. In 1999 JSTAC volunteers inspected, pruned and
mulched the trees. In 2001 JSTAC volunteers pruned project
crabapple trees. In November, 2003, JSTAC replanted seven ash and
three crabapple trees at the project site, pruned where needed, and
mulched all of the project trees.
In March, 2004 one crabapple tree planted in 1998
was found to be obstructing the view at a street corner. In
April, 2004, the use of a donated professional tree-moving "shovel" the
tree was lifted from its original location and replanted within the
project area.
